Samsung LN22B460 22-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

This is our first flat panel TV and we did quite a bit of research before purchasing. Seems different manufacturers concentrate on different sizes – Samsung had by far the best picture for the 22″ class (looked at a bunch of TV’s at Best Buy to compare). TV size was dictated by where it’s being used. Great antenna – we have no cable at our rural location and often have a difficult time receiving local stations. This TV already had 90% of the local stations with only the coaxial cable connected – I hadn’t even connected the antenna yet. With antenna connected it receives all local channels perfectly.

The owner’s manual is a bible – there are about 1000 features to this TV that we’ll never use nor understand. HDTV feature is stunning when using new Blu-Ray Disc player. Have only been using for about one month (Christmas present to ourselves)but so far so good. Would recommend highly.

Samsung HLP5063W 50-Inch Widescreen HD-Ready DLP Television Review

I bought this unit in August, 2004 and love it! I probably overpaid as this was “new” technology back then. I bought the 4 year extended warranty from Best Buy and had the DLP bulb replaced twice. Each time the bulb was replaced it was not absolutely necessary but hey, I paid for the extra warranty… I’m using component input cables from my Denon AVR-1905 and am considering upgrading to the AVR-1909 so I can connect to the Samsung with HDMI. I just got a Blu-ray player and am shopping for the AVR-1909 but I’m struggling with a reason to upgrade the TV. This Samsung has been a real winner. I’d like to get a 58″ LCD or Plasma but will probably wait for this DLP to break down. I’s strongly recommend a Samsung DLP to anyone in the market.

Samsung LNT4061F 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

The PIP only works with analog input and now that locals are digital that’s a weakness of the set. I have Directv and they don’t carry all the added local channels, and that makes the PIP virtually useless. Apparently there is so solution with older sets that don’t have two ASTC tuners. They obviously had plenty of notice that this was coming, so they were remiss in not providing for it. It would have been worth the few dollars more it would have cost! Other than that, it’s a great set and haven’t had one problem in two years.

Samsung LN40A450 40-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

I had purchased this TV in October of ‘08 from another vendor. I was researching 720p sets for about month before I purchased. I had planned on using my media center PC with it. I really didn’t want a 1080p set because the only true 1080p source these days is blu-ray, which I had no intention of investing in. I was impressed with all aspects of the set since I bought it. Ghosting was present sometimes. I found it really depends on the source of the content that produces more or less ghosting. Yes there are the 120hz HDTVs out there, but from what I have seen they can’t get rid of all the ghosting. 120hz sets double the frame rate of content that isn’t supposed to be run at such a high frame rate. The result is weird and unnatural looking motion in movies that are only supposed to be running at 24 frames per second, not 120. Ghosting and motion blur are an inherent limitation in LCD technology, LCD owners will have to accept this. I was looking into plasmas to, but all the 720p plasmas I found seemed to have a native resolution of 1024×768, which is not a wide screen resolution. In addition, plasmas are subject to burn-in on the screens, something I didn’t wanna have to deal with. Plasma sets are being phased out pretty fast anyway. So I chose this TV, it wasn’t too big, wasn’t too small, and had everything I required.

Out of the Box, it showed impressive HD picture with off-air HD channels. The setup with auto-program was very easy and straight forward. SD content is very watchable. Hooking my media center PC up to the VGA connection produced a flawless picture. The built-in speakers produced a satisfying full sound. The unit seemed like the perfect 720p set, until I tried to use more than one HDMI device. Apparently, for some very odd reason, only 1 out of the 3 HDMI inputs will utilize the TV’s native resolution of 1360×768. As many people know, if you are not running an LCD display at its native resolution, you are not getting its full potential in picture quality and sharpness. The other 2 HDMI inputs default to a resolution of 1280×720, which because its not the native res of the TV, looks blocky and slightly out of focus. So for me, these other 2 HDMI inputs are basically useless. I am going to have to buy an HDMI hub now to accommodate my multiple HDMI devices so they can all utilize the TV’s native resolution. If I had known about this flaw, I would have never purchased it. Samsung, if you are listening, is there a purpose behind this design flaw?

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

Samsung LN52B550 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color Review

Received this last week, and finally got it mounted on the wall. Little experience so far with set, but will say this: the picture is big, bright, and beautiful!! Can’t comment on the sound yet, since I mostly pipe everything through the A/V receiver. You’ll probably want to tweak the video settings to get it just the way you want.

Some notes to those who might be interested:

1. HDMI and other inputs are nearly flush with back panel, and perpendicular to screen, so if you plan to wall-mount this, you’ll want 90-degree cables or spring for a bunch of 90-degree adapters. Otherwise, your cables will be kinked hard against the wall, making it extremely difficult to mount flat and impossible if you want to tilt it downward slightly. Not an issue if you plan to use it on its stand. However, there is one set of side-mounted inputs (HDMI and composite only), which alleviates this problem somewhat.

2. It might be just me, or the mounting arms, but the set was off-level after mounting (off by 0.4 degrees) even though the wall support bracket was measured as level to 0.0 degrees when installed (measured with a digital level). Hard to determine where the fault is; the bracket might have shifted after mounting, or the mounting holes on the set were originally slightly misaligned. Either way, will have to shim to level.

3. Set does not have S-video inputs, important for those who might want to connect any older S-video components.

4. Very stylish design. High gloss bezel, will look great in any room. Matte screen eliminates glare.

Might be the best value in basic 52″ LCD name-brand sets. Does not have internet capabilities, LED back lighting, nor 120/240 Hz refresh rates, but it’ll be hard to beat this TV for value. In spite of lacking the aforementioned features, the picture is very bright and beautiful, with little noticeable lag. This is an IMPRESSIVE television.
